(Life Cycle of s Silkworm - Spanish Edition)

As part of the satellite's scientific program, Moscow school students, led by biology teacher Alexander Koloskov, carried out an experiment to study how weightlessness influences the life cycle of silkworms.

LIFE CYCLE OF SILKWORM

The diagram shows the life cycle of silkworms and the process of making silk cloth.

Life Cycle of a Silkworm (with Pictures) | eHow

The life cycle of a silkworm begins from the eggs laid by the mother worm and from these eggs the silkworm larvae are generated after 10 days. The silkworm larva usually eats leaves like mulberry leaves and completes the second stage of the life cycle in 4-6 weeks. In their third stage, they create silk thread shells and remain there for another 3 to 8 days and then create an oval cocoons. The cocoon-stage lasts for around 16 days and they become moth in the final stage. With time the moths become grown-up and recycle the processes again.

As is presented in the first picture lifecycle of silkworm begins with eggs laid by mother worm. Silkworm eggs transform into shape of silkworm larva after around 10 days. Then the second process starts, and in this stage larva usually eat leaves like mulberry leaves in order to grow up.

The two given pictures describe the life cycle of silkworm and also illustrate the procedure of silk cloth production.

An illustrated timelinecharts the stages of development of the silkworm.Shanghai Textile Research Institute has made research on it. As a slice of silk gauze fabric, it is sheer and sparse. It is found that people in primitive societies were fond of color to express their aesthetic ideas, as colored pottery, tattoos, and clothing. The color of the silk gauze is light red, perhaps pigmented with umber iron ore, representing the earliest unearthed colored silk product in the world by far. It is discovered from a coffin for the infant, used as wrapping the dead body. There used to be a tradition in ancient China that “Linen is for preserving the health of the living and silk is for easing the soul after life”. It was considered that the life cycle of silkworms was holy and connected with the whole universe and life & death. Thus wrapping silk fabrics can enable the soul to the Nirvana.
The diagrams illustrate the life cycle process of the silkworm as well as various steps in making of silk cloth.

Growing up with my kids: Lifecycle of a silkworm

The basic characteristics of traditional silk production areas are family units and sufficient land to grow the required amount of mulberries. According to the cost production at 70% of labour costs, sericulture can realize higher income for family units. In chapter 3 section 3.1, table 5, it is shown that sericulture increased income figures at 75%. The life cycle of silkworms is completed in 3-4 weeks, thus, possible harvest of fresh cocoons is monthly. In consequence, farmers can achieve cash money every month.

Summary and Conclusion
For the best quality of silk production, silkworm should be reared under optimum temperature and humidity and fed with recommended quantity and quality mulberry leaf with sufficient leaf moisture. The larval stage is the most important stage for the better cocoon production. For the efficient and quality production of silk, lifecycle of silkworm should be understood. One should know the proper time for mounting of the larvae and cocoon maturing for silk extraction. Temperature and humidity factors plays important role for the food consumption and utilization. Humidity also plays a vital role and directly influences the physiological functions of the silkworm. With the increase of temperature (20° – 30°) leaf to silk conversion rate decreases. The mulberry leaves used for the larval feeding should be fresh, tender, dark green and succulent with lesser moisture content.

Life Cycle of A Silkworm - World News

Initially, life cycle of silkworms starts with eggs which are laid by bee on the mulberry leaves. After this stage of cycle it becomes silkworm larva on mulberry leaves. It is then developed into silk thread within 4 to 6 weeks. After the last main stage of life cycle it is transform into cocoon which is necessary to make a silk cloth.
