McMaster Health Science Acceptances? - yconic

The McMaster University Health Sciences Centre opened in 1972 to provide health care in Hamilton's growing west end. It was designed by the Toronto architectural firm of Craig, Zeidler and Strong. The building featured a unique design concept that made it very flexible and economical for later modifications. All the permanent architectural features such as the structural frame, floors, roof and services are separated from non-permanent features such as room partitioning and ceilings. It cost $73 million dollars to build and provides 1,335,433 square feet of usable floor space. The hospital officially opened on May 27, 1972.

I wanted to ask everyone’s opinions on this.
I actually was just accepted to healthsci a few days ago, and I’m really torn between McGill lifesci and Mcmaster Healthsci. I know healthsci is an excellent program, but I have always wanted to go to McGill…
That being said, my parents really want me to go to Mcmaster. Many of my friends have been accepted to McGill, but only four were accepted to Healthsci from my school. Everyone is telling me to go to McMaster – but I’m still so confused!
I know I want to do something medicine-related in the future, not sure what yet.
I’m not a big party person, but I don’t like the idea of living amidst wheat fields….
If anyone could offer any advice, that would be amazing.

To get into Canadian universities, all you need is high grades except Waterloo requiring supp forms and McMaster Health Sci requiring supp essays.
As a current medical student, I have to say that generally speaking, my favorite classmates are those that didn’t attend McMaster health science…for a variety of reasons! As a current medical student, I have to say that generally speaking, my favorite classmates are those that didn’t attend McMaster health science…for a variety of reasons!1.The class would not be filled. Think about it. How many graduating high school students across Canada are there who have 98+ averages AND have McMaster Health Sciences as their first choice? The number of students who satisfy both criteria are extremely low, to the point where having the supplementary application would likely not be necessary - yet the comprehensive supplementary application still exists.

And even if you don’t believe this is true, here are some reasons why it is extremely unlikely that you would need a 98+ average to get into McMaster Health Sciences:

There are lots of parents and students who believe this same idea, that going to McMaster Health Sciences gives you a significant advantage in getting into medical school. They have this idea that medical schools give preference to McMaster Health Science students.

I mean, think about it. The students who get into McMaster Health Sciences, have competitive enough marks, and write essay answers well enough to have been able to beat out 3000+ other students to get in. Are they not likely to be significantly better than the average student in the medical school application process? They are more likely to be better students (grades-wise), are more likely to be actively involved outside of academics, and are more likely to be able to present themselves better on essays. Regardless of how good the Health Sciences program is, statistically, their students should do significantly better than average than the typical medical school applicant anyways.
